Gary Simpson

Gary is skilled in the mobilisation and management of multi-sector design, monitoring and evaluation teams and the preparation of feasibility/design, and tender documentation (scope of services and basis of payment).

His development sector experience includes: (i) Land Administration and Management (Philippines, PNG, the Pacific Regional Program and Lesotho; (ii) Institutional Strengthening and Governance (PNG, Philippines, Solomon Islands,  Indonesia and Cambodia), Community Development (Philippines, PNG, Australia) and (iii) Social and Economic Impact Assessment in the renewable and non-renewable resource sectors (PNG, Philippines, Indonesia, Australia).

His Donor experience includes AusAID, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, IFAD, UNDP, and the USA Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

His Civil society experience includes CARE Australia, Fred Hollows Foundation, The Quakers, Save the Children Fund, Anglicare,  Kimberly Land Council, the Ok Tedi Development Foundation and the Community Development Initiatives Foundation.

His Private sector experience includes BHP Billiton and Ok Tedi Mining Limited (Ok Tedi Mine PNG); Chevron, Exxon Mobil and Oil Search (PNG Gas Project); Rio Tinto (Century Zinc ) Porgera Joint Venture, (Porgera Gold Mine) and Highlands Pacific (Ramu Nickel Mine) and Morobe Mines Joint Ventures (Hidden Valley and Wafi).

His experience in working with bilateral and multilateral aid donors, community groups, NGOs, government agencies and the private sector provides him with a range of models for the design and management of sustainable development initiatives. These models include: direct funding through communities, government and NGO agencies;  the establishment of trust funds, foundations and  facilities; and formal contracting through local or international competitive tender.
